Boulogne sur Mer is ideally located at the central point of Côte d’Opale and the surrounding nature reserves. A historic and lively city as the largest fishing distribution port in France (with superbly fresh seafood to offer), it also boasts the biggest aquarium Nausicaá in Europe with an affiliated ocean/sealife research centre. The imposing Basilica de Notre Dame standing tall on the hill within the Mediaeval fort walls built on Roman foundation was as a key pilgrimage stop en-route to Santa Maria de Compostela. Set on rue du Château right in between the Basilica with its Crypt Museum and the Château Museum completed with its mote; each with a unique and impressive collection of art and artefacts, The StayWell is a perfectly located for the cultural enthusiasts.
For the lovers of nature and outdoors, there are long stretches of soft and sandy beaches between Boulogne and Wimereux, and River Liane right at our doorstep to offer both serenity and sporting. And within 15-20 mins. drive you will find the magical sand-dunes and pine forests of Hardelot and Forêt d’Ecault to the south, the sublime capes of Cap Gris Nez-Cap Blanc Nez to the north, as well as the the rolling countryside and marshland reserve around River Slack. Just a touch further afield, Le Touquet facilitates both the golfers and shoppers whilst Wissant caters to the keen surfers. From kite surfing to and wing-foiling to sailing and canoeing for the watersportifs, to the hikers and bikers, triathlon runners and equestrian riders on shore, there is no shortage of activities to keep you entertained during your stay.
Commanding a strategic position long sought-after by the English, French, Belge, Flemish and Germans, this region is also rich of its significant war history and subtle fusion culture, dating back from the Cesar’s times in 300AD through the Norman and Mediaeval periods to Napoleonic era and C20th World Wars.
